Experience

School:

I have had the privilege of gaining a great deal of experience for my age through my education, my work experience, and my self teaching side jobs. I am currently on track to receive my bachelors degree of science in Culinary Management at Southern New Hampshire University. While at SNHU I have received my associates degree in Baking and Pastry Arts, where I got to have one on one time with my chefs. I have taken courses such as Advanced Pastry, Cake Decorating, Classical French, International Baking, and Retail Baking. During these classes I have learned how to produce large production numbers, how to make flowers and other decorations for cakes. I have also learned how to professionally plate a dessert dish, and worked with mediums such as sugar, pastillage, and chocolate to make showpieces. Aside from my core baking classes, I have also gained management experience as a Junior manager in our student run restaurant the Quill. In the Quill I get to help organize lunch and dinner services while teaching the under classmen how to properly serve. We have learned how to run the front end of the restaurant while also taking classes such as Food and Beverage Cost Control to learn how to order for a restaurant or bakery, and how to take inventory. The personal attention I receive from my chefs help my to be successful in the future.

Employment:

I have worked the past six years working at Crystal Lake Golf Club in Mapleville Rhode Island, working in many different positions including busing, waitressing, hostessing, and beverage carting. This has allowed me to learn how to engage and serve customers in a variety of ways. I have also had an internship at Decadent Designs Bakery, formerly in Cranston, Rhode Island. At my internship in the summer of 2016,I was a cake decorator. I was able to help decorate cakes and cupcakes for a variety of events including weddings, birthdays, baby showers, and graduations. I received a lot of hands on experience at my internship and was able to work on dessert orders by myself with limited help from my boss. Using all of the knowledge I have gained through my education and work experience, I made cakes and cupcakes on the side for friends and family. On my own I have made cakes for weddings, bridal showers, and many birthdays. This has allowed my to figure out all on my own how to make a cake worthy of being sold, and the creativity was all on me.
